Miami Beach approves next step for GTA VI marketing campaign

The Miami Beach City Commission voted 4–3 to move forward with negotiations for a marketing campaign tied to Grand Theft Auto VI. The vote took place on September 10 and authorizes the city to continue discussions with Rockstar Games and Amplify Marketing.

The proposal calls for a promotional campaign in Miami Beach that could begin on October 15. Ideas discussed include beach chairs, umbrellas and other beachfront elements carrying GTA VI and Vice City branding.

The narrow vote also showed that the proposal remains divisive. Some commissioners questioned whether the city should associate itself with a franchise built around crime and violence, while supporters pointed to potential tourism, international exposure and revenue.

One important distinction: the vote does not mean the full campaign is already finalized or active. It authorizes negotiations to move forward, with final details still dependent on an agreement between the parties.

The situation shows how GTA VI is already having an impact beyond gaming ahead of release. Vice City has long drawn from Miami, but the relationship could now move in the opposite direction, with the real city borrowing from its fictional counterpart.
